We were lucky enough to get a trade for our Southern California Christmas week for one in Cancun this year.

Those of you that have gone or go every year.....have you noticed a pattern in when prices may fall or don't they ever? We will be coming from all over the country - New York City, Chicago & Sacto so any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Jet Blue flies directly from NY to Cancun (not sure about the other airports). When they first release their tickets, about 6 months in advance, the competing airlines tend to follow suit in general. This is the first year they are going from NY to Cancun.

Check out kayak.com. You can enter an ongoing search and get daily alerts for each city. It gives general rates for the month, but it is helpful to see the trends.

We're also looking for air during Christmas week from Chicago or Indianapolis. The fare is outrageous compared to past fares that we spent in the summer or spring break time periods. We've never gone at Christmas so can't compare the fares to now..........does anyone have a clue to what we should expect so I can book it with confidence. Thanks!

I am leaving for Cancun on 5-4 from Indianapolis and I can tell you that the two times I have flown from there you have to connect all over to get decent flights into Cancun at a reasonable price. This time I am flying Indy-Washington DC- Cancun arriving at 11:43 am.Coming back Cancun-Charlotte-Indy arriving 9:30 PM. My friends are leaving 1.5 hours later to fly to Cancun and they are going Indy-Charlotte-Cancun, returning Cancun-Atlanta-Indy. So if a direct flight is what you want Chicago would be a better option. As far as cost, It ranges from about $325 to $700 depending on departure times.
