If Christmas is good time to be in North Carolina for family vacation? How is the weather looks like? Where is the best area to stay? Should we stay at the shore or the mountains?

Do you realize how big a state NC is? Are you wanting the shore, or the mountains, or somewhere in between.

Do you want an average daily temperature of 49deg or 39deg
Do you ski or bike ride?

I would stay in S. E N. C. You can look from Southport to Calabash. From Southport , Myrtle Beach is about 45 mins to an hour away. Temps in the Winter vary. Some years are warm and some are cold. But the average temp is good. On the OBX question. I would go in March, the temps are warmer. The OBX also has an indoor pool. Be advised that stores and places to eat can be closed. You can call the Kill Devil Hills chamber to ask your questions and also a booklet of things to do.

Biltmore Estates is very beautiful at Christmas time.

You might want to consider the Gatlinburg area. Lots going on there around the holidays and it's close enough for day trips to Biltmore.

March is a bit of a gamble on the OBX. There is a lot of pleasant weather then, although of course too early for swimming, but also some late cold snaps come through. The t/s resorts generally end up mostly full that month, but the demand is off enough that you can find inventory a lot closer to use time than higher demand periods. I suspect you would not have any trouble right now finding availibility for next March.

The best coastal choice in NC would be North Pier Ocean Villas in Carolina Beach, close to WIlmington. The weather will be a bit warmer, and you are close to Wilmington, a fair sized city with some interesting things to do.

If you like skiing and snow, the mountains may well not have natural snow on the ground in December, but the ski slopes will likely have machine made snow.
